NWS says cold air funnels possible Friday afternoon

The National Weather Service Office in Northern Indiana says there is a chance of cold air funnels Friday afternoon.

Cold air funnels are relatively rare. According to the NWS, they are a funnel cloud or a small, relatively weak tornado that can happen when the air aloft is unusually cold. They are usually not associated with thunderstorms and rarely reach the ground.

The NWS says the greatest potential is mainly south of a line from Winamac to North Manchester to Lima, Ohio.

The NWS says the potential for cold air funnels will decrease this evening as the atmosphere becomes more stable.
