A happy day in downtown South Bend. Power has been restored!

Indiana Michigan Power crews have been working around the clock since an underground electrical fire led to the outage Thursday night. Power came back on around noon, Sunday.

Crews monitored the restored power lines to make sure there were no lingering issues, but none were immediately spotted.

I&M thanked customers and the city of South Bend for their cooperation. "The coordination that you saw, the downtown folks here in South Bend, the Mayor's office, really just an amazing job. You don't see that in every city I've been to," said Indiana Michigan Power President, Paul Chodak.

The focus now, is figuring out what went wrong. Chodak says upgrades were made in 2001 and so they're pretty puzzled as to what sparked that fire. It could take I&M crews a few weeks to find a cause.
