With power returning to downtown South Bend on Sunday businesses were excited they no longer had to depend on a generator. Cafe Navarre Manager, Dan Demeester says although the the generator kept them open during the outage, he's happy to be back on city power.

"It was beautiful coming in today at two o'clock in the afternoon and not hearing the generators pushing out diesel fuel and just being back on the grid is amazing," Demeester said.

LaSalle Grill Managing Partner, Andrew Galloway says they were able to run service as usual while the restaurant was running on a generator. St. Mary's College and Notre Dame held graduations Saturday and Sunday so Galloway says being open was critical. "This is the busiest weekend of the year for us. Football weekends are very busy but this is even busier. We get four days of graduation and we're open on Sunday. We're normally not open on Sundays," says Galloway.

LaSalle Grill and Cafe Navarre both expected around 300 customers for Sunday's service. While generators kept the restaurant open, Demeester says there still was some business lost because power wasn't fully restored until Sunday. "We really needed this Friday afternoon but unfortunately circumstances happen and back to normal now."

With power back on restaurants and people with reservations didn't have any concerns about enjoying a dinner."They're happy. We're happy. Everybody's happy," Galloway said. He says it only took about ten minutes to switch power from the generator to the city's connection.

And it wasn't just businesses who were happy to have downtown South Bend up and running with power again. "I'm very excited. I never thought I'd be so excited to see stop lights working again," South Bend resident Julie Lauck said.

Lauck says her apartment building was just outside of the power outage area. She was out with her York Terrier on Sunday to enjoy downtown. "Just walking the dog and enjoying the city since we haven't been able to this weekend," Lauck said.
