Thousands of people will be making their way to Benton Harbor later on in the week. Harbor Shores will host the 75th Senior PGA Championship beginning on Thursday.

Senior PGA Championship Director for this year's event, Jeff Hintz, says he is expecting 50,000-70,000 people to visit Benton Harbor for the golf outing. "And those people are here not just to interact with the golf course but also the community," Hintz said.

Hintz says the championship will broadcast to 250 million homes worldwide. He calls it “a huge commercial” for Benton Harbor. Hintz wants the thousands of others who will watch in person to want to make their way back to the city. "We want those folks to come back and that's what it's all about really for the community. The strategy is introducing folks to the community and this golf course and what it has to offer," Hintz said.

Owner of Lark's Bar-B-Que Willie Lark says he is anticipation a busy week at his restaurant. He expects this to be the case for most of Benton Harbor. "All local businesses that are in Benton Harbor will prosper from it. That's the hope anyways," Lark said.

Lark is confident this will be the case because he saw a big boost in business the previous time the championship was held at Harbor Shores. , "We did very well in 2012 and we expect to do that much better this year," Lark said.

Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Cornerstone Alliance Greg Vaughn says the Benton Harbor community has been taking a turn for the better in the recent past. "We're seeing people in the community that we've never seen before so I think we're starting to really reap the rewards of the Senior PGA," Vaughn said.

The Senior PGA Championship starts Thursday morning with golfers teeing off at 8;10am and runs through Sunday. This year's championship sponsored by KitchAid. Harbor Shores will host the championship again in 2016 and 2018.
