High School Students Can Earn College Degree

It may be extra work, but imagine graduating with a high school diploma and a college degree at the same time.  Ivy Tech plans to offer an early college program to 11 local high schools.

The program allows students to earn a technical certificate or an associates degree by the time they graduate from high school.  At Penn High School,  about 120 incoming freshmen have been selected.

Students are part of selected groups, such as first-generation college students, minorities, those who have maintained grade-point averages of 2.75 to 3.5, are on free or reduced lunches, or have passed the ISTEP exam.

Other schools in the program include South Bend Career Academy, Elkhart Area Career Center, Triton, Elkhart Central, Elkhart Memorial, Goshen, Concord, Northridge, Fairfield and Jimtown high schools.
