Miss America visits Saint Joseph

Posted:
Nina Davuluri is the reigning Miss America.

She's a Michiana native, growing up in Saint Joseph, Michigan.  Tuesday morning she returned to her old stomping grounds at Saint Joseph High School.

"It is amazing, I remember when I was here, I think, my sophomore year.  I think the field house just opened and that was a huge addition for our school, of course now seeing all of this I'm so excited to take a tour and see how the community has grown," says Davuluri.

She spoke to the students and delivered a message of acceptance.

"First and foremost, always present yourself in a positive way and always take it as an opportunity to educate people," says Davuluri.

Students we spoke to say it's inspiring to know a girl from their hometown has gone so far.

"With Miss America as a Saint Joe grad it's a big thing and it shows that you know, keep working hard and you can do anything you want," says Grant Mosher a senior at Saint Joseph High School.

Davuluri says she's been living out of 2 suitcases since September with no vacation and no days off.  She says she's thankful for the experience and feels like it won't seem real until she passes on the crown this fall.
