Teens charged in Swoveland case moved to adult court

Three teens police say are connected to the death of a two-year-old South Bend boy will face charges as adults.

During a juvenile court hearing Friday, a Magistrate waived 17-year-old Malcolm Buchanon, 15-year-old Cedric Washington, Jr. and 15-year-old Tyre Bradbury to adult court.

The three teens are charged in connection to the death of two-year-old John Swoveland, Jr. Swoveland was killed by a stray bullet police say was fired from 3 blocks away.

All three teens face charges of Assisting a Criminal. Bradbury is also charged with Aiding in Murder. The state also filed Criminal Gang sentencing enhancements against all three.

Buchanon’s bond was set at $5,000 cash. Washington’s bond was set at $10,000. Washington is also facing a separate Escape charge. Bradbury is being held without bond.

In all, 8 people are facing charges in connection to Swoveland's death.
