Governor Mike Pence is visiting Indianapolis in hopes to expand Medicaid

Indiana State Officials are asking the public to voice their opinion, on a proposal that would expand Medicaid using the state's Healthy Indiana Plan.

Governor Mike Pence rolled out the proposal earlier this month. It is slated to expand coverage for Hoosiers with low-income. It's based on the hybrid health savings account plan already being used by the state, but is also adopts key components of Medicaid.

The Family and Social Service Administration will host a public hearing on the plan today in Indianapolis. Governor Mike Pence will be asking the federal government for a waiver to use the state-run plan instead of using the traditional Medicaid to expand health care coverage. If the federal government gives the go ahead, it would pay for the expansion the same way it has paid for other states who have been approved for the Medicaid expansion.
