Relay for Life comes to Elkhart

Posted:
It's going to be a long weekend for Elkhart Relay for Life walkers. The Relay started at ten on Saturday morning and there's still plenty more time left. The relay is organized into teams who raise money for cancer research, and show their support by walking -- for 24 hours. This year there are 46 registered teams, and about 350 participants.
Elkhart's event hosted at Goshen High School is hoping to raise 80 thousand dollars and today they're already at the halfway point. We talked to some folks about why they put on their walking shoes, like Rebecca Little, the event coordinator,
"My grandfather passed away in 2009 and it was very painful for him and our family and so i decided this is my way to make a difference, " she said.
Carissa Williams and Jessi Drake lost their step-father to bone cancer in 2012, so they are walking in his honor and using the atmosphere as a support system,
"I know for her an I and my mom it's just been a good support it's been a good outlet --- to meet other people that go through what everyone's going through," they said.
You can make donations to the American Cancer Society up until August 31. Visit www.AmericanCancerSociety.org
