Berrien County Council for Children plan to expand facility

The Berrien County Council for Children announced their plan to expand their facility, in order to provide more services.  Berrien County Council for Children is a child advocacy center where children can be interviewed in cases where there are allegations of sexual abuse.  The idea behind the center is they can bring together law enforcement, someone from the prosecutors office, and someone from child protective services so the child only has to tell their story once and everyone can get all of the information they need.  They provide services for Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren Counties.

The CFC also provides crisis and long term therapy for families or siblings who are having trouble dealing with issues, such as abuse in the home.  All of their services are provided at no cost to the child or family.  In 2013 they interview or provided services for 564 children.

Executive Director for the Berrien County Council for Children, Jamie Rossow said this expansion is necessary to provide the types of service that are needed.  "We are adding several therapy rooms," Rossow said, "so we can see both the child and the mom, or whoever it may be at the same time.  We are also building larger rooms so we can start adding play therapy which is proven to be really effective in smaller children."   They also hope to be able to hold group therapy sessions in the expanded facility.

The target goal to raise for the expansion is $960,000.  The have already purchased the land for the expansion.  To help donate, visit
