Transformer fire put Niles without power for over two-and-a-half hours

Niles has power again after a morning outage that lasted over two-and-a-half hours.

According to AEP, the city of Niles lost power after a morning transformer fire at a privately owned sub-station.  Dispatchers say the fire broke out around 8:00am and the city lost power shortly afterward. AEP says the station is privately owned by National Standard. After the fire was under control, crews worked to re-route power away from the damaged station. Service was restored shortly after 10:30am.

AEP, which routes power to the city, says they sent crews to the scene of the incident and investigated. After 10:00am, AEP said all work to restore power was complete on their end.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
