No Child Left Behind waiver could cost Indiana millions

Posted:
Millions of dollars are at stake and Indiana lawmakers will do what they can to keep it later today.
The Indiana State Board of Education is scheduled to get an update on the state's efforts to maintain its No Child Left Behind waiver.
The state could lose control over millions in federal dollars if it does not retain its waiver from the federal education law. The Department of Education is scheduled to deliver its update to the board at its monthly meeting Wednesday.
The U.S. Department of Education alerted state officials last month that they were in danger of losing the waiver because of problems monitoring low-performing schools. The waiver concerns were announced by federal officials shortly after the state became the first to formally exit the national Common Core education standards.
