Sturgis Police: Homes evacuated for intentionally set gas leak

Several homes and a daycare center were evacuated for close to two hours Wednesday after police say a man purposefully started a gas leak in his home.

Detective Sergeant Ryan Banszak with the Sturgis Police Department says a man in his late 30s walked into the police department's lobby around 1:00pm suffering what appeared to be hallucinations and paranoia.  Police say the man admitted to starting a gas leak in his home on the 300 block of South Nottawa Street.

Fire officials were able to stop the flow of gas.  The nearby homes and daycare center were evacuated as a precaution.  Everyone was allowed back into the area around 3:00pm.
