UPDATE: Suspect in bizarre killing ruled competent to stand trial

Posted: Updated:
SOUTH BEND - A new trial date has been set for the suspect in South Bend's first homicide of 2014.

After he was ordered in June to be examined for his competency to stand trial, the defense for Jacob Saye agreed to drop the issue Tuesday without a hearing. Saye, 22, is accused of murdering 21-year-old Christopher White in February at a gathering on the 1800 block of South Pulaksi St. Doctors submitted reports to the court on their examinations of Saye's competency before the hearing.

The St. Joseph County prosecutor's office said Saye told investigators he suggested to White playing a game of "Russian Roulette," but admitted he placed the gun up to White's head and pulled the trigger.

Say will next be in court for his record date at the end of October. His trial is scheduled to begin on Nov. 17.
