Pinkney will stand trial for election fraud charges stemming from Benton Harbor mayoral recall

Benton Harbor Community Organizer Rev. Edward Pinkney push for a mayoral recall is ending in a trial.

A St. Joseph County Court judge ruled Thursday that Pinkney will stand trial for charges of election fraud and allegedly allowing people to sign recall petitions more than once.

Pinkney was charged on April 24, two weeks before Benton Harbor Mayor James Hightower was set to face City Commissioner Marcus Muhammad in a special recall election. A St. Joseph County judge then suspended the election in light of the allegations.

Pinkney is next due back in court in mid-July.
