Minutemen hoping for more time

The Concord Minutemen are hoping Saturday's game against Lake Central, won't be the last minutes they spend together as a baseball team this season.

Indiana high school baseball season continues Saturday morning with the IHSAA regional round. In order for a team to advance to semi-state they must win two games.

Concord has just a 15-15 record this year, but played well enough in their sectional to take the title there.

"It's all about that momentum," said Concord senior Nick DeFreese. "We got it together at the right time of the year and it's just got to keep going on."

They will look to keep it going against a 21-10 Lake Central team. The Minutemen say they'll have to keep approaching the game the way they had over the last few weeks.

"It feels good to come together as a team," said Duncan Boone, a senior for Concord. "At the beginning of the season it wasn't really like that, it was more individuals. But now we're all on the same page and we're keeping it rolling."

If Concord can get by Lake Central in their 10:30AM match-up, they would play either Hobart (25-5) or Penn (27-4) in the regional championship. The Kingsmen and the Brickies come into the regional as the favorites, but Concord is not looking at it that way.

"We have to go into it with a we can win this mentality," said DeFreese. "If you think you're the underdog, than you're starting off with the wrong mentality."

Concord will play in the LaPorte High School regional.
