Mishawaka's Rohrer shatters state record

Posted:
Many expected Mishawaka's Anna Rohrer to win the Indiana state title in the 3200 meter run. Some even expected her to break the state record. However, not many could have predicted what she actually did.

The Cavemen junior wowed the crowd in Bloomington with her 10:14.43 time on the way to her second IHSAA title, breaking the state finals record by an outstanding six seconds. The previous record was held by Culver Academy's Waverly Neer, who posted a 10:20.66 just three years ago.

Rohrer said many times this year that her goal this year was to break Neer's time, especially after falling just .02 seconds short of the goal in last year's state finals.

The Mishawaka runner was not the only Michiana athlete to impress at the IHSAA State Finals.

Penn's Ashleigh Macleod is heading back home from Bloomington with a first place medal of her own. The freshman sensation was the first to cross the finish line in the 800 meter run, posting a solid time of 2:11. Riley runner Kacie O'Neal was not too far behind Macleod, finishing fourth overall.

The Warsaw Tigers 4x100 relay team took second place in their final event and the South Bend Adams Eagles were right behind them finishing third.

Unfortunately Riley's Ayianna Gaines was injured during the 400 meter dash and was only able to place 25th. The Wildcats senior finished second in the event last year and was hoping for the top podium spot this season.
