Three new hotels planned for Mishawaka

MISHAWAKA -

The city of Mishawaka will soon be home to three new hotels. One of the hotels, a 99-room Hampton Inn & Suites, is planned for Heritage Square. The shopping center includes a Martin’s Super Market, several restaurants, and a number of shops. The scheduled opening date for the hotel is August 26, just in time for Notre Dame football season.

In addition to the Hampton Inn & Suites, Mishawka will see two other new hotels near the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center on Douglas Road. A 120-room Holiday Inn & Suites and a 72-room Candlewood Suites are in the planning stages. Land has been cleared but construction has not begun. The tentative schedule is for a 2015 opening date, although late 2014 is not out of the question.

Saint Joseph County currently has 4,000 hotel rooms, according to Rob DeCleene, the Executive Director of Visit South Bend Mishawaka. The added rooms should increase the county’s total, even with the closing of the Magnuson Grand Hotel in downtown South Bend. No tenants have been identified to replace the Magnuson, although work on the Chase Tower is moving forward with a new heating unit and work on the building’s elevators.
