LaPorte County Coroner says child died after accidentally hanging himself at a daycare

LaPorte County Coroner John Sullivan says a five-year-old from Michigan City died Monday after accidentally hanging himself with a jump rope at a daycare facility.

"The autopsy that was done today revealed the cause of death to be asphyxiation due to hanging," Sullivan says.  He adds the manner of death was determined to be accidental.

Sullivan says the jump rope was left hanging over a play fort in the backyard of the daycare.  The child is identified as Amareon Williams.

The incident happened Monday at Tricia's Playhouse Daycare in the 18-hundred block of Michigan Boulevard in Michigan City.  Michigan City Police say emergency crews first responded to the daycare at around noon.  Police say Williams was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
