UPDATE: Warsaw man dies after being struck by vehicle

Posted:

A Warsaw man died Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle. The accident occurred at 5:26 a.m. north of Warsaw in Kosciusko County. Police found the 22-year-old man, Michael C. Keener, lying on the roadway with severe injuries. Keener was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Initial reports from the Kosciusko County F.A.C.T./crash investigation team found that Keener had been walking southbound near 3340 North County Road 150 West when he was hit by Darrell E. Young, 46, who was driving his 2002 Jeep Liberty southbound. Young said that he had not seen Keener until the last minute due to the dark clothing that the pedestrian was wearing.

Young told police officers that he attempted to swerve as Keener was crossing the road. After striking Keener, Young’s vehicle continued down County Road 150 West until it hit a utility pole on the eastside of the roadway. Young was not injured.

Officers say that the crash remains under investigation while blood tests are performed, as state law mandates. The Kosciusko County F.A.C.T./crash investigation team was assisted at the scene by Warsaw Police Department, Leesburg/Plain Township Fire Department, and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
