Public meeting to improve Lake Michigan's coast

Are you a fan of Lake Michigan? Do you have ideas on how to improve the shoreline, but don't know how to get the ball rolling? Well listen up, because the Indiana Department of Natural Resources wants to hear from you.

The Lake Michigan Coastal Program awards funds to local governments, regional and state agencies, colleges and universities, and nonprofit groups. You are able to spend those funds on improving public access or habitat, acquiring more land, and applying for research and other projects. There is a catch though. Projects must stay within the northern portions of Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties.

A public input meeting will be held in Portage next Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
