South Bend street renamed in honor of the Four Winds Invitational Golf Tournament

Posted:
Michigan Street, in downtown South Bend, has been temporarily renamed Four Winds Invitational Drive.  It happened during a ceremony Monday morning at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Washington Street.

Representatives from the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians were on hand to celebrate the occasion.  Tribal Chairman for the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, John Warren, said they are very excited to be a part of the local community.

"The Pokagon Band for many, many years has always been a part of this community," Warren said, "but we never had the resources available to us to really give back like the earlier years, when the settlers first came into this area.  It is really exciting to be able to give back to the community we like contributing to it."

The 2014 Four Winds Invitational will be held June 20-22 at Blackthorn Golf Club. The tournament will feature a field of professional women golfers from around the world competing on the Symetra Tour-Road to the LPGA.
