Police are charging a man with attempted murder, among other felony charges, after an early morning incident in a Three Oaks parking lot.

Just after 3:30 a.m. Berrien County deputies responded to a call in the lot of an apartment complex on Locust Street in Three Oaks. There they found 23-year-old Brock Thompson allegedly swinging a baseball bat at a crowd of people.

Before officials arrived, witnesses claim that Thompson got drunk and started smashing car windows at the intersection of Nel's Road and Locust Street.  Witnesses also say Thompson assaulted two people.  He allegedly drove away from that scene, but not before hitting someone with his car and trying to run down a second person.  The alleged victim received only minor injuries.

When Thompson arrived at the Locust Street apartment complex, that's when witnesses say he exited his car and started swinging at the crowd with a bat.  When deputies arrived, they drew their weapons and ordered Thompson to drop the bat.

Thompson was able to avoid the deputies and take off in his car down Three Oaks Road. A chase ensued, which ended when Thompson crashed his car on Martin Road near Basswood.  He was arrested without further incident.

Thompson is charged with two counts of attempted murder, one count of assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault and battery, malicious destruction of property to several vehicles, fleeing/eluding police and intoxicated driving.
