SB Health & Public Safety Committee talks with neighbors about concerns

South Bend Common Council members went door-to-door Tuesday talking with people about their concerns. They were in the Coquillard Park area, where a two-year-old boy was recently shot and killed.

Some people expressed concerns with street lights being out, possible drug houses in the area, and vacant lots not being cleaned up.

Neighbors also said they'd like to see extra police patrols, considering the recent shooting death of John Swoveland, Jr.

"I'm still saddened by the whole thing. I have a two year old grandson so it hits close to home," says neighbor Tom Whipkey.

Neighbor Tenara Taylor says, "We have a lot of teenagers who are walking around with nothing to do and they're gonna get in trouble."

This is the fourth neighborhood council members have visited. This is the year they work on Police budgets, so they say gathering this information is particularly important.
