On June 9th, Anita LeFlore did what a lot of parents do every single day.  "I dropped him off with the intention of picking him up like I did any other time I brought him, and when I picked up my other two he was gone," she says.
LeFlore is now suing Tricia's Playhouse and Day Care in Michigan City.  She says the workers weren't watching Amareon when he was playing in the backyard, accidentally got tangled in a jump rope hanging over a play-set, and died.  "It's hard for me to understand it," she says.  "At night I still wake up and cry because it hurts."

LeFlore is represented by Chicago Attorney Mark Novak.  "There's no question that this tragedy could have been prevented," he says.  "The people running this day care had an absolute responsibility that day to inspect the playground and make sure that any hazardous objects, hazardous materials, were removed and they failed egregiously to do that that day."

Novak says someone at the day care should have informed LeFlore about a recent inspection.

On April 21st, weeks before Amareon's death, the state gave Tricia's Playhouse six citations.  According to documents provided to FOX28, an inspector found some workers didn't have proper CPS training.  "In my opinion the facility should have closed until those situations were rectified.  Instead they were placed on probation."

FOX28 asked for a response from Indiana FSSA.  They provided a statement saying, "We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family. Since our investigation is ongoing, we have no further comment."

The state temporarily closed the day care after Amareon's death.  It remains closed now.  We reached out to Tricia's Play House, but have not received a call back.

Anita LeFlore says her family is no stranger to tragedy.  She says she moved from Chicago to Michigan City to find a better life for her son.  "I wanted more for Amareon," she says.  "He deserved more. "

The family had been living in Englewood, a rough neighborhood in Chicago, before they moved.  LeFlore says Amareon was making tremendous progress in Michigan city before Amareon's death.  "Just as a parent, not being able to save your kid, it hurts."
