Want to help with a science event in Elkhart County?

Calling all people who like to volunteer -- Elkhart County Parks could use your help.

They've teamed up with Jared Collins, a graduate student studying conservation biology at Miami University, to offer a short term Bioblitz at Ox Bow County Park on Saturday, July 12th from 9am to 5pm.

The goal of this citizen science event is to create a snapshot of the variety of life that lives within the park. In addition, the project will bring field research to within reach of the interested members of the general public to provide a showcase of science that encourages public participation and inspires people young and old to get involved in biodiversity conservation initiatives.

This event is open to the general public and all interested people will be welcome to observe or participate anytime throughout the day. The Bioblitz will begin at the Black Maple Shelter with volunteers dispersing throughout the variety of park habitats.

Elkhart County Parks is seeking scientists, professors, students, and self-taught nature lovers who would be interested in sharing their knowledge in the following taxonomic groups: mammals, birds, herps, aquatic invertebrates, fish, and vegetation.

Volunteers are welcome to spend the entire day at the event if they'd like.  To register for this event contact Jared Collins at jcollins2112@gmail.com or call Elkhart County Parks at 574-535-6458.
