California Freshman Riley Wester Commits to Notre Dame Softball

Riley Wester Riley Wester

The Notre Dame softball team is pulling a page from the Muffet McGraw book and offering an elite high school athlete very early in her career.  The big difference for Notre Dame Softball Coach Deanna Gumpf is that Edison High School Freshman Riley Wester got the offer and then committed.  The Center fielder and 2nd baseman said on her Twitter account, "blessed to say I have verbally committed to the University of Notre Dame"  Wester is from Huntington Beach California and is the younger sister of Notre Dame outfielder Karley Wester who will be a sophomore next year.  If that isn't enough, there is a middle sister who is also committed to Gumpf's program.  That's Ali who will be here in 2015.  Riley is one of the youngest athletes offered and quite possibly the youngest to ever commit at Notre Dame.  Diggins got her news in October of 2005, her freshman year, and waited more than 3 more years to commit.   Big sister Karley Wester tweeted Sunday, "So proud of you riles!!! Way to complete the trilogy sis".  Coach Gumpf isn't allowed to comment on individual recruits, but she did tweet Sunday, "Just received some great news.  So excited about our future."   Riley Wester is part of the Class of 2017.  The Edison High School product hit .445 her freshman year according to Max Preps.
