South Bend Police Officer complains of discrimination and retaliation from the Chief

SOUTH BEND -  Retaliation after a complaint, that's the accusation of a South Bend Police officer against Police Chief Ron Teachman.
Officer Theodore Robert says it all started when he and fellow officers complained about the chief a couple of weeks ago.

Two weeks ago Robert stood in front of the South Bend City Council to voice complaints against Police Chief Ron Teachman.  He accused Teachman of things like racial discrimination and employment discrimination.
Robert said he and other officers submitted those complaints to the Board of Public Safety.  "Two days after we presented those complaints, Chief Teachman retaliated against one of the officers," said Robert, "he basically brought him up on disciplinary action for an event that occurred 164 days ago and per the duty manual that investigation should have been completed back in January or no later than the beginning of February."

So now, they filed another complaint against Chief Teachman for retaliation.
We tried to get the Chief to comment about these complaints but were told by the Department's Public Information Officer that Teachman was in meetings for the rest of the day and we were directed to the Mayor's office.

The Mayor's office told us the statement they sent out two weeks ago, about the first complaints filed against Teachman, is still relevant.  It says, "The City of South Bend supports diversity and fosters an inclusive and supportive work environment for all employees. We also take all complaints seriously and are committed to investigating allegations and taking appropriate action if it is warranted."

Robert said he'll keep fighting until the Chief or the Mayor's office does something.  "We have to do what's right.  We have to seek justice."

Robert said the have now submitted four complaints total against Chief Teachman. the three original ones and now this one for retaliation.
