ST. JOSEPH COUNTY - The St. Joseph County 4-H fair officially opened its gates today. Fairgoers young and old enjoyed the rides, fried food, games, and exotic animals on display. It seemed like everyone had their own favorite reasons for going.

"I guess just hanging out with friends and having a good time," said Grant Simpson.

Gene Young, 77, and Kathy Wentland, 60, were out on a date night. Young still remembers the first time he went to the 4-H Fair more than 35 years ago. Wentland said that the two enjoy going to the fair three or four times a week when its in town.

Sisters Ellie, 10, and Kathy, 7, Clarke only planned to stay a couple of hours, but their mother decided to make a whole day of it after they realized how short the lines for all the amusement rides were. The Clarke sisters had a difficult time choosing their favorite part of the fir.

"What's my favorite ride?" thought Ellie. "All of them!"

The choice was much easier for Wentland and Young.

"He likes the food!" said Wentland.

Both Clarke sisters were eager to reply that they definitely planned on coming back.

The fair runs until next Saturday, July 5.

Tickets cost $8,  but entrance is free if you can make it before 9 a.m. and only $4 before 12 noon. Seniors cost $5, and the fair is free for kids 8 years and younger.
