Weather to blame for morning power outages in St. Joseph and Berrien counties

UPDATE: At 11:30am, I&M says they are down to 1,600 customers without power in the St. Joseph County area. They expect service to be fully restored by 3:30pm. I&M also says 350 customers are without power in Southwest Michigan, but there is no expected restoration time for that area.

PREVIOUS: Over 4,000 Indiana & Michigan Power customers are without power Monday morning in St. Joseph and Berrien Counties and officials say weather is to blame.

At 9:00am, nearly 3,000 St. Joseph County customers are without power and almost 1,100 were being affected in Berrien County. I&M officials say the outages are scattered throughout the area, with weather being identified as a common cause. Officials add that in several cases, power lines have been downed, and warn that such situations can be very dangerous.

While most of the outages are believed to have begun around 7:00am, there is no official expected restoration time.
