Students work in South Bend parks as part of city mentoring and job corps program

Teenagers are keeping busy during summer break, working!

Twenty-five South Bend high school students are working for the Parks and Recreation Department through its Summer Mentoring and Job Corps program.
The students, between ages 16 and 18, do whatever needs to be done around the city's parks. That includes working with the kids, cleaning the bathrooms, and office work.

"I know I'm helping out my environment when I'm helping the kids and the gym and the programs we have and so I think it's just a great opportunity for us to become better people," says student Julian Hubbard.

The students work 15 hours a week at $8 an hour.
