Domestic dispute ends in manslaughter

Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety officers responded to the 800 block of East Vineyard for an assault complaint yesterday.

When officers arrived on the scene they saw a female lying on the ground in the front yard. She had no pulse and was unresponsive. The female was identified as Patricia Ann Nichols of Benton Harbor.

Then officers made contact with two male subjects on the scene. Donte, Patricia's son, and the other Jamyran Lee Scott Roberson. Roberson and Donte have been involved in a long term relationship.

An argument broke out between the two yesterday. It escalated when Jamyran attacked Donte by assaulting him. While the fight was going on Patricia tried to break up the attack. It then moved to the front porch and as Patricia tried to end it Jamyran shoved her. This caused her to fall head first onto the concrete walkway.

She was pronounced dead at the scene from unknown injuries. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

Roberson was arrested without incident and send to the Berrien County Jail on one count of Domestic Violence by Strangulation and one count of Involuntary Manslaughter.
