Jose Diaz appeared in court today and plead guilty to two counts of operating a vehicle with a controlled substance, a Class B Felony.

He was charged for these crimes in connection with the deaths of Jonathan Hernandez and Marco Leal.

Both died in a vehicular crash that occurred on December 8th, 2013. It happened near the intersection of Ironwood and Ridgedale where a Cadillac hit a Ford pickup truck and then struck a fire hydrant, utility pole and a tree.

The Cadillac contained a driver and three passengers. One passenger, Hernandez, was found dead at the scene. The second passenger, Leal, was seriously injured in the crash and pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver, Diaz, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. There was also a third passenger, Manuel Ruiz, who was also treated at the hospital and later released.
