UPDATE: Death of four-month-old in South Bend ruled a homicide

SOUTH BEND -

UPDATE: St. Joseph County Coroner Chuck Hurley says the cause of death for Halo Stutzman was cranial cerebral trauma. The death is being ruled a homicide.


UPDATE: St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office says 4-month-old Halo Stutzman of South Bend has died.  Her father 22-year-old Bryan Alexander Michel has been charged with the death.  The Prosecutor's Office says that Probable Cause was found.  Michel remains in custody at the St. Joseph County Jail.


PREVIOUS: South Bend Police say a 4-month-old girl is in critical condition and on life support at an area hospital, following a 911 call saying the child was not breathing.

It happened at 3:00 pm on the 1400 block of E. Dubail St. We're told South Bend officers and South Bend Fire Department medics were sent to the home immediately. The girl's father, Bryan Alexander Michel, 22, was arrested and preliminarily charged with Neglect of a Dependent.

The case is being investigated by both St. Joseph County Metro Homicide and the Special Victims Unit, and the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office is reviewing the case to determine what, if any, formal charges will be filed.
