Former MSU star brining $1 basketball camp to Benton Harbor

Former Michigan State star Mateen Cleaves is bringing a basketball camp to Benton Harbor, but unlike most costly camps, Cleaves's camp only costs $1.00.

Cleaves, who helped lead the Spartans to the NCAA Title in 2000, is bringing his One Goal, One Passion camp back to Southwest Michigan after 900 campers showed up last year.

The camp will run from July 22-24 and there is a good chance other former Michigan State stars like Morris Peterson, Jason Richardson and Draymond Green will help Cleaves as an instructors.

Registration began Saturday at Benton Harbor High School, where Cleave's former MSU teammate Thomas Kelley helped kids enroll in the camp.

"It's going to have a lot of energy and be a lot of fun," said Kelley. "We're going to set a good example. Something the kids can build on. It's not just basketball. It's about life."

Families who are interested in registering their children for the camp can still do so online here:

The camp only charges $1.00 thanks to help from Meijer, who helped foot the majority of the camp cost bill. Cleaves and Meijer worked together to provide children an opportunity to attend basketball camps that normally would not be able to because of the costs.
