Ride for Kids held in South Bend to raise money for research for pediatric brain tumors

There were some happy kids going on motorcycle rides in South Bend on Sunday morning. It was all part of the annual Ride for Kids event. The event aims to raise money for research for pediatric brain tumors.

The children went on a 50 mile ride as motorcyclists started and ended the trip at Pinhook Park. Proceeds from the event go to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation's medical research and family support programs.

Karen Alexander's son went on the ride. Her son has an inoperable brain tumor. She says she looks forward to one day hearing of cure found. "It would be wonderful because the kids wouldn't have to go through what our family has gone through the last four years. We wouldn't have to see kids suffer," Alexander said.

Pat Dekock lost her grandson to a brain tumor. She says she continues to come to the Ride for Kids event to see the smile on the faces of all the children during the ride. "This has been a roller coaster for us because of what we went through. But it means every year is so exciting to see the kids," Dekock said.

This was the tenth year the Ride for Kids was held in South Bend.
