South Bend International Airport to add non-stop flights to New York City

SOUTH BEND - You'll soon be able to get to the Big Apple on a non-stop flight from South Bend International Airport.

Monday morning, St. Joseph County Airport Authority Board President Tom Botkin announced that South Bend International Airport will soon offer once-daily United Express flights to Newark Liberty International Airport.  

St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners President, Andrew Kostielney said Mondays announcement has the potential to be a large boost to the economy.  "South Bend Airport is a key economic driver of our local economy," Kostielney said, "they generate close to 1.7 billion dollars annually and they hope is, with fifteen thousand more seats available, that will bring in an additional 50 million dollars each year."

The service will start Monday, October 27th -- departing from South Bend International Airport at 6:20am and arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport at 8:23am.

The first flight from Newark will start the day before -- leaving at 7:00pm and arriving in South Bend at 9:13pm.
ExpressJet will operate the flights using an ERJ-145 regional jet aircraft with 50 United Economy seats.
