Premier Arts Production of "Hairspray" plays in Elkhart July 18th -20th

This weekend, you can travel back to the 1960's right here in Elkhart, with the hit Broadway show "Hairspray".

Premier Arts opens tomorrow night with the 8-time Tony award winning show. "Hairspray" will play at the Elkhart Lerner Theatre, and two of FOX28's very own will be in the show. Morning Show reporter Faran Fronczak plays the villain of the show, Velma Von Tussle, and the voice of our very own anchor Tom Powell is the 1960's news anchor.

The show synopsis is the 1950's are out and change is in the air! It's 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire -- to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network, all without denting her 'do!

Ashlea Romano of Goshen plays the part of Tracy Turnblad. "This part gives me an opportunity to inspire others by proving that all it takes is one individual to stand up for what they believe in and follow their dreams and passions to start a change. Tracy is independent, bold, and sees equality for all people. To her, everyone deserves the same opportunities and chance to live the lives they've always imagined," she says.

Performances for the Show are:

Friday July 18th - 7:30 PM
Saturday July 19th - 3:00 PM - Youth Performance
Saturday July 19th - 7:30 PM
Sunday July 20th - 3:00 PM

Saturday immediately following the performance, cast members will perform 1960's hits at the "Afterglow Cabaret", held at McCarthy's in Elkhart. For more information about "Hairspray" and to purchase tickets, click here.
