ST. JOSEPH COUNTY - Clay Fire Territory Fire Marshal Dave
and Deputy Fire Marshal Ron Melser Jr. were awarded the professional designation of "Fire Marshal" by the Commission on Professional Credentialing. Cherrone and Melser are two of 81 credentialed Fire Marshals worldwide. There are only four designated Fire Marshals within the State of Indiana.

The award is given after an individual successfully meets all of the organization's stringent criteria. It includes an assessment of the applicant's education, experience, professional development, technical competencies, contributions to the profession and community involvement.

"We are extremely proud of both of these individuals for achieving this elite designation," Clay Fire Chief Timm Schabbel said. "They are both highly engaged professionals who have devoted their lives to keep our communities safe. To see their efforts recognized on a national level lends undeniable validation to our long-standing belief that both Cherrone and Melser represent the finest in the fire service."

Fire Marshal Dave Cherrone has been a member of Clay Fire Territory for 40 years. Deputy Fire Marshal Ron Melser Jr. has been a member of the territory for 16 years.
