The South Bend Silver Hawks are battling it out for first place in the Midwest League. If that isn't enough to attract fans, maybe witnessing history will get you out to the ball park.

Andrew Velazquez set a minor league record on Sunday reaching base in 72 straight games. But he wasn't stopping there. Entering Thursday's game against the Burlington Bees, Velazquez and his streak was at 74 games.

The streak has made for an exciting time for Silver Hawks' fans. Michael Peterson was at Velazquez's record-setting game. Maldonado and her family made the trip from New York to watch her son make history on Sunday. On Thursday, she was just like any other mom nervously watching her son's every at-bat. "Get on base. Get on base. Get on base," Maldonado said.

Maldonado says the team doesn't seem to mind the added attention. "They are getting attention through him also so they're loving the attention even if it's through him," Maldonado said.

"I don't tell him that because he doesn't want to hear it,” Maldonado said. “I mentioned it one time and he just ignored me so I think it's a superstitious thing or he doesn't want the pressure and he's just trying to be cool about it but in my mind I'm saying get on base."

Velazquez went 0-4 on Thursday ending his streak at 74 games. He started his streak on April 22...
