Hack Michiana: civic involvement through technology comes to IUSB

Posted:

Technology-based solutions; that's what the group Hack Michiana wants to achieve in South Bend. They got together at I-U-S-B today for a day of collaboration called Community as Capacity. Their goal is to implement improvement projects around the city. Organizer, Beth Harsch says she hopes they can change the connotation of the word "hack",

"The real term is just about improving things, and finding a solution to problems is really what it's all about," she says.

Deputy Mayor, Mark Neal, as well as South Bend Police Chief, Ron Teachman were in attendance to show their support. The day-long event on Saturday had three focus areas: Safer, smarter housing, cleaner communities, and coding awareness.  Hack Michiana says they're looking for people of all skill types to help with their project. To get involved, check out their website here.
