New Elkhart store opened to honor owner's son

A new Elkhart store is trying to help man's best friend. Scrapper's Rescue located off Cassopolis Street is a new retail and consignment store benefiting local organizations that assist animals.

This is where it differs from others. Proceeds from the store help local service dogs.

Pat Heiser is the owner of the store which just opened this weekend. Heiser says she was inspired to open after her son died.

"It's in honor of my son Tim. He recently passed away due to epilepsy," Heiser said. "His last wish was to help more of the service men, service and companion dogs."
