Local fire departments and officials react to death of New Carlisle firefighter

ELKHART -

As news spread of the death of New Carlisle Fire Department Assistant Chief Jamie Middlebrook, so did expressions of grief and condolences from nearby fire departments and elected officials.

Governor Mike Pence issued the following statement: 

“I was saddened to learn of the death of New Carlisle Assistant Fire Chief Jamie Middlebrook, who lost his life protecting the safety of Hoosiers. Today, Indiana mourns the loss of a true Hoosier hero. On behalf of the state, the First Lady and I extend our condolences to his family and friends and hold them in prayer during this difficult time.” 

Congresswoman Jackie Warlorski tweeted her condolences:

"Sending my heartfelt condolences to the family of Asst. Chief Jamie Middlebrook. We are forever grateful for his service and sacrifice."

Clay Fire Territory asked for prayers for Middlebrook's family on their Facebook page:

"Please keep New Carlisle Fire Dept and Assistant Chief Jamie Middlebrook family in your prayers. Rest in peace Brother!"

Even the fire department from Sandusky, OH posted on the New Carlisle Fire Department Facebook page:

"Our thoughts are with all of you and Jamie's family. Rest easy Brother!

South Bend Police tweeted out a message of support as well: 

"The SBPD sends condolences to the family, friends and coworkers of A/Chief Jamie Middlebrook of the New Carlisle Fire Department."


The Heroes Memorial Foundation announced on their Facebook page they will be organizing a Lights On event in Middlebrook's honor on Friday. They're asking everyone to shine a light at sunset at 9:00pm on Friday night.
