Transpo refutes complaint that they violated Open Door law

The South Bend Public Transportation Corporation (Transpo) issued a statement Wednesday denying complaints that they violated Indiana's Open Door law.

Transpo received a complaint from the Howard Park East Bank Neighborhood Association alleging violation of the law. In their statement, Transpo said the complaint received indicated a "misunderstanding of the terms and operation of Indiana's Opern Door law."

The release went on to say that a majority of Board of Directors is not required to be present in order to have discussions about the sale of real estate property, even if the discussion includes community members. Therefore, Transpo claims they did not violate the law with any of the meetings they held on the "Disposition of the Northside Property" that had less than the majority of board members in attendance.

Transpo held multiple meetings earlier this summer to decide between submitted proposals for developing the property that housed their former headquarters. They will hold a Board of Directors meeting to decide which plan to adapt later this month.
