South Bend All-Stars get a shot to repeat as World Champs

Michiana's world champs are back in town!

South Bend's District 11 All-Star Softball team won the Senior League World Series Title again this year and traveled home from Delaware this morning.

Because the team can only be made up of 14 to 16-year-olds, about half the team was new this year. The new girls did not hold back, and they managed to win the title game 5 to 0.

The girls say it's an amazing feeling.

Sydney Swartz says "It's nothing like I've ever felt. I mean, I've always dreamed about being a world champion and now it's happened, and I can't believe it."

About one hundred people stayed up late to welcome the World Champs home.

Original Story:

It took a seven inning nail bitter, but the South Bend District 11 All-Stars are heading back to the Senior Little League Softball World Series Championship.

The team made up of girls from all around St. Joseph County beat a team representing the Southwest 1-0 in the semi-final game to reach the title game.

In the seventh inning of the semi-final, Alyssa Gutierrez laid down a bunt that appeared to result in a pop-out. However, the Southwest team was unable to play the ball and as it trickled away into foul territory Sydney Swartz scored for the District 11 All-Stars to seal the win.

The District 11 All-Stars are representing the Central United States and they will play the team representing the West in the Championship Sunday at noon in a game televised on ESPN.

South Bend was able to win the Senior Little League World Series Title last year after they defeated a team from Italy 5-1.
