UPDATE: Suspect arrested and charged in killing of man found at Shirley Motel

SOUTH BEND -

UPDATE: Police have charged a 42-year-old woman in connection  with  the death of a  homicide victim found in the Shirley Motel in South Bend.  Teri Rigley has been charged with voluntary manslaughter. Police say Rigley has been  charged with killing Pierce with a deadly weapon, in this case "a cutting instrument."  Pierce's body was discovered August 12th at the hotel on US 31.


PREVIOUS: The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit (CMHU) has identified the man found dead Tuesday, inside the Shirley Motel on US 31 in South Bend. Police say the man is 56-year-old Edward M. Pierce.

Pierce's death has been ruled a homicide by the coroner's office. The forensic pathologist on the case said his death was caused by a "sharp force injury."

PREVIOUS:The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit (CMHU) is on the scene where a body found inside of a hotel on US 31.South Bend Police (SBPD) say the body of a man was found inside of a room at the Shirley Motel on the 6000 block of US 31. CMHU is on the scene investigating and the county coroner has reportedly been requested.

FOX28 spoke to police at the scene, who said that SBPD, CMHU and the coroner's office were working together to determine the cause of death of a man in his 50's. 

The St. Joseph Prosecutor's Office said they are in contact with CMHU and determining whether any other information will be released today.
