Run Jane Run event continues to raise money for women in need

GRANGER - The 30th annual Run Jane Run is expected to bring hundreds of women golfers out for a round of 18 while also raising money at the same time. The event is hosted by the YWCA and taking place at the Knollwood Country Club and uses the money to provide programs and services to the women of Michiana who are in need.

The first event was held in 1984 with the same goal in mind; help women and children who have been victims of domestic violence. Since then the YWCA has grown to include services for sexual and drug abuse.

Sally Derengoski is the Co-Chair for the event and one of the founders. "The funds that are raised through the Run Jane Run project support programs that not only assist them during the time of crisis but also elevate their skills and abilities and resources to become the community members that every person wants to be," Derengoski said.

Nearly 200 women golfers were registered for the golf outing. There is also an award banquet held at the end of the day where over 10,000 dollars worth of prizes will be given out.

TheYWCAA North Central Indiana is the area's largest provider of domestic violence services reaching over 1,500 women and children each year.
