Over 26 years after Theresa Burns was found shot to death in her home in Mishawaka, Phillip Geans is scheduled to stand trial for her murder.

Geans had his trial date set Tuesday in St. Joseph County court, after the case was originally continued in June. Jury selection is scheduled to begin on Dec. 4, with the "Commencement of Evidence" scheduled to begin on Dec. 8.

Geans is charged with Murder, and was originally arrested in December of 2013 for the 1988 killing of Burns. Burns was a 15-year-old sophomore at Mishawaka High School at the time of her death. According to court documents, police arrested Geans, 44, after determining that the gun his stepfather reportedly found in Geans' bed was the same that killed Burns.
