GRANGER - UPDATE: The St. Joseph County Judge approved the prosecutor's recommendation to add feticide to the list of Purvi Patel's charges Tuesday. The trial date has also been pushed back for the fifth time. A new trial date is expected to be set when Patel is due back in court on Friday.

PREVIOUS: New charges have been filed against a Granger woman already facing trial for allegedly leaving her baby in a dumpster.
The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office filed amended charges against Purvi Patel August 21, 2014. They added a single count of Feticide, a Class B Felony. Court documents allege that Patel "did knowingly terminate a human pregnancy with the intention other than to produce a live birth or to remove a dead fetus," and that her conduct was not an abortion performed in compliance with state law.

Patel was arrested in July of 2013 and charged with Neglect of a Dependent. According to court documents, doctors concluded that Patel's baby was born alive before she allegedly disposed of it in a dumpster. You can view the full original affidavit here.

The trial date for Patel has been changed on four separate occasions, but the Prosecutor's Office said this will have no effect on the scheduled Sept. 29 trial date.
