A LaPorte man has been charged with providing alcohol to a New Carlisle teenager whom doctors ruled died of acute intoxication.

Matthew Eddy, 24, was charged with Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor, a felony, after police say he told them he purchased beer and vodka for a group of teenagers. St. Joseph County Prosecutor's report one of those teenagers was 18-year-old Andrew Torquino, who was found dead on Aug. 10 in New Carlisle. Court documents say an autopsy revealed that Torquino's blood alcohol level was .40 BAC, and that he died of acute intoxication.

Court documents say Eddy and others admitted to seeing Torquino pass out and began vomiting, and that they carried him to the back of a flatbed truck to "sleep off the effects" of alcohol. Torquino was found unresponsive the next morning, and did not respond when medical personnel were called in and performed CPR.

St. Joseph County Metro Homicide investigated the death. An arrest warrant has been issued for Eddy.
